Special Political and Decolonization:
The Special Political and Decolonization Committee is the
Fourth Committee in the United Nations General Assembly. Wide-ranging issues
have been discussed by this committee ranging from peaceful uses of outer
space to conflict between specific nations.
TOPIC:
The legal status of the Guantanamo Bay detainees (22 November 2003, 11.30

Committees
International Court of Justice:
The International Court of Justice is the judicial arm of the United
Nations. Composed of 15 judges with its seat in the Hague in the Netherlands,
the ICJ replaced the Permanent Court of International Justice in 1946. Since
then, the Court has worked to rule over disputes between the member states
of the United Nations. There are currently 23 cases pending before the
Court.

DR of Congo v. Belgium (22 November, 2.30 p.m.)
Knesset:
The Knesset is the parliament of Israel. This uni-cameral body of
representatives is responsible for debating issues and creating legislation,
drawing up and passing Basic Laws to add to the constitution, and approving
the government.
TOPIC:
The preconditions for a peaceful settlement of the Arab-Israeli
dispute (22 November 2003, 10.30 a.m.)
Palestinian Authority:
The Palestinian National Authority has been charged with the Governing of
the West Bank and Gaza Strip since the beginning of the Oslo agreement and
Semi-Autonomous control. The committee will represent the legislative body
of the Palestinian Authority, the Palestinian National Council. The
committee will have power of Palestinian policy and budgetary matters.

The legal status of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) and
Palestinian human rights (22 November, 9.30 a.m.)
Security Council:
The Security Council's main purpose is to maintain peace and international
security. When conflicts arise, the Council first seeks peaceful means to
resolve discrepancies; if fighting ensues, the Council serves as a mediator.
It can issue cease-fire directives, peacekeeping operations, economic
sanctions, or military force, among other things. There are fifteen nations
in the Security Council, with five permanent nations and ten rotating spots.
