INTERNATIONAL Symposion on Muslim-Christian Dialogue

From 17 to 19 November 1981 the I.P.O. organized in Rome (Italy) an International Symposion on "The Concept of Monotheism in Islam and Christianity." The meeting was held under the patronage of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Hassan of Jordan. H. E. Emilio Colombo, Foreign Minister of Italy, His Eminence Cardinal Franz König, Archbishop of Vienna, H. E. Chadli Klibi, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, and H.E. Habib Shatty, Secretary-General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, joined the honorary committee of the conference. Opening addresses were given by H.E. Marouf Dawalibi, President of the World Muslim Congress and former Prime Minister of Syria; H.E. Hilarion Capucci, Archbishop of Jerusalem; and Prof. Mohamed A. Sinaceur, Representative of the Director-General of UNESCO. Research papers were presented by experts from Belgium, Egypt, France, Germany, Jordan, Lebanon, Nigeria, Pakistan, Tunisia, and the United Kingdom. The Secretary of State of the Vatican, His Eminence Agostino Cardinal Casaroli, sent a special message to the President of the I.P.O., expressing his hope "that this endeavour will truly promote a better understanding and appreciation of the values and beliefs of both the Islamic and the Christian faiths."

The proceedings will be published by the International Progress Organization.

GENERAL ASSEMBLY

The 4th Regular General Assembly has taken place in Vienna on 30 October 1981. The Assembly amended the Statutes of the I.P.O. and extended the term of office of members of the Executive Board to 4 years.

DECISIONS OF THE EXECUTIVE BOARD

The regular session of the Executive Board of the I.P.O. has taken place at Hotel Beau Rivage in Geneva on 19 December 1981. The Board decided to create the Golden Honorary Medal of the I.P.O. on the occasion of the 10th founding anniversary of the organization in 1982.

The Executive Board appointed Professor Francis Dessart as permanent representative to the European Communities in Brussels; Prof. Aguste-Raynald Werner as Permanent Representative to the United Nations Organizations in Geneva; Dr. Robert Thabit as permanent representative to the United Nations in New York; and Prof. Henry Cattan as permanent representative to Unesco in Paris.

The Executive Board has admitted new members from Austria, Bangladesh, Belgium, Germany (Federal Republic), Italy, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Romania, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Yugoslavia, and United States of America.
