MEETING OF EXPERTS ON THE NEW INTERNATIONAL ECONOMIC ORDER

Under the patronage of the Austrian President, Dr. Rudolf Kirchschläger, the I.P.O. organized from 2 to 3 April 1979 in Vienna (Austria) an International Meeting of Experts on "The New International Economic Order - Philosophical and Socio-cultural Implications." The meeting was co-chaired by experts from Iraq, Italy and Senegal. The keynote speech was delivered by the Vice-Chancellor and Minister of Finance of Austria, Dr. Hannes Androsch. Reports were presented, inter alia, by Dr. Fadhil J. Al-Chalabi, Deputy Secretary-General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC); Dr. Walter Fremuth, Deputy Director-General of Austria's Girozentrale (Savings Bank Federation); Mr. Basile Kossou, Director-General of the African Cultural Institute (Dakar, Senegal); Dr. Klaus Moll, United Nations Industrial Development Organization; Prof. Carlo Mongardini of the University of Rome; Prof. Milan Šahović of the Institute of International Politics and Economics (Belgrade, Yugoslavia); and Mr. Liaqat Ali of the Independent Commission on International Development Issues (ICIDI) under the Chairmanship of Willy Brandt.

The Mayor of the City of Vienna gave a reception for the delegates.

EXECUTIVE BOARD

The regular session of the Executive Board was held on 13 December 1979 in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. The Board decided that the I.P.O. will organize an international experts' conference on the Palestine problem in the year 1980, and authorized the President to undertake the necessary consultations and preparations.

INFORMATION VISIT OF THE VICE-PRESIDENT

 

Mr. Bill Hartley (Australia), Vice-President of the International Progress Organization, visited Vienna from 27 to 29 May 1979 for consultations with I.P.O. President Dr. Hans Köchler and officials of Vienna-based international organizations. He met, among others, with the Deputy Secretary-General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Dr. Fadhil J. Al-Chalabi; with Dr. Klaus Moll of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO); and with the International Secretary of the Austrian Socialist Party (SPÖ), Mr. Walter Hacker.
