INVITATION TO DIPLOMATIC MISSIONS TO ATTEND INTER-CULTURAL CONFERENCE

On 22 January 1973, the President of the I.P.O. sent a circular letter to all Ambassadors and Consuls accredited in Austria, introducing the organization's idea of inter-cultural dialogue and inviting the respective countries to take part in the forthcoming conference on "The Cultural Self-comprehension of Nations."

SESSION OF THE EXECUTIVE BOARD / PRIORITY OF INTER-CULTURAL DIALOGUE

On 5 February 1973 the Executive Board of the I.P.O. met in Innsbruck, Austria, and decided, inter alia, that the organization will focus its activities on inter-cultural dialogue. The Board  reviewed the preparations for an international conference on "The Cultural Self-comprehension of Nations" to be held in Innsbruck, Austria, in July 1974.

MESSAGE FROM SECRETARY-GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS

On 10 December 1973 the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Dr. Kurt Waldheim, sent a message to the President of the International Progress Organization welcoming the organization's initiative to hold an international conference on "The Cultural Self-comprehension of Nations" and praising the "serious and imaginative approach of the I.P.O."

MEETINGS AND INFORMATION VISITS OF THE PRESIDENT

On 24 February 1973 the President of the I.P.O. met in Meran, South Tyrol, Italy, with the former Federal Chancellor (Prime Minister) of Austria, Dr. Josef Klaus.

On 27 February 1973 the President of the I.P.O. met in Innsbruck, Austria, with the Consul-General of France, Ms. Elisabeth de Miribel.

On 3 April, 30 November and 13 December 1973 the President of the I.P.O. met with Austrian Foreign Minister Dr. Rudolf Kirchschläger in Vienna in order to brief him on the activities of the organization, and in particular on the preparations for the conference on "The Cultural Self-comprehension of Nations."

On 3 April 1973 the President of the I.P.O. held a series of consultations in Vienna on the forthcoming international conference on "The Cultural Self-comprehension of Nations." He met, among others, with diplomatic representatives from India (Mr. K. P. Balakrishnan, First Secretary), France (Mr. Raoul Calvignac, Press and Political Counselor) and the United States (Mr. Norris D. Garnett, Cultural Attaché).

On 5 April 1973 the President of the I.P.O. met with the Governor of Tyrol, Eduard Wallnöfer, at the Government House in Innsbruck.

On 12 June 1973 the President of the I.P.O. met in Vienna, Austria, with H.E. Enrico Aillaud, Ambassador of Italy.

PARTICIPATION IN INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCES

  • 30 April 1973: Trento, Italy / Board meeting of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

  • 5 May 1973: Innsbruck, Austria / Lecture by Prof. Walter Hallstein, first President of the Commission of the European Economic Community, organized by "Europäische Studentenvereinigung Österreich" (EStÖ).

  • 21-22 August 1973: Korčula, Yugoslavia:  Korčula Summer School ("The Essence and Limits of Civil Society").
